GIGI Dia stars in the film NIOFAR

French actress Gigi Dia stars in the acclaimed film NIOFAR. The film tells a story in two perspectives. The perspective of a French woman (played by Soliane Moist) who comes to Senegal, and a Senegalese woman (played by Gigi Dia) going to France. We see the learning process of each woman about the culture and language of their new country.

In Wolof, the language of Senegal, Niofiar means “to be together”.

This is a personal film for its director Hugo Lemant. The film is a metaphor of the amazing and unique experience lived by Hugo’s brother. He lived for one year at Grand Mbao, a small village in Senegal. There, he shared the day a day life of the villagers. He learnt the local language and every part of their culture.

Gigi Dia’s outstanding performance was extremely acclaimed by the audience and the film won Best Short Documentary – International Monthly Film Festival (Copenhagen, Denmark), Best Foreign Documentary – International Monthly Film Festival (Copenhagen, Denmark), Best Shot Documentary, Short of the Year (Madrid, Spain), Prix TV de la région, Les Clayes du Cinéma (France), Winner, Moondance International Film Festival (Boulder, USA), and Outstanding Cinematography, Autumn Shorts Film Festival, (Somerset, USA).
